Killeen Rodeo to Offer Live Streaming This Year, LED Screen Set Up

Hey there, rodeo fans! Get ready to giddy up and watch the 77th annual Killeen Rodeo like never before! This year, we’re livestreaming all the action on The Cowboy Channel, with replays and big-screen thrills on a massive 10-foot by 16-foot LED screen right at the arena. It’s like having a front-row seat to all the excitement, no matter where you are!

Our Rodeo Killeen Committee Co-chair, Mike Adamson, was there to see the magic happen as the tech crew set up the screen. He’s super excited because these broadcasts are going nationwide, giving everyone a chance to see the PRCA athletes strut their stuff in Killeen. It’s a big deal for our city, and we’re all about sharing the love!

The journey to get this awesome video system started when Brett Gordon, another co-chair, went to the Killeen City Council last July to ask for some future funding for our beloved rodeo. And now, here we are, with a giant screen that’s only sticking around for this year’s rodeo, but it’s sure to deliver some epic replays and heart-pounding rodeo action. We’ve got the equipment on lease for the three-day extravaganza, so don’t miss out!

Tune in to The Cowboy Channel listings to catch the livestream at 8 p.m., with a rebroadcast the next day. Just check with your service provider for the channel number and times for the Killeen Rodeo. And if you’re on the go, you can also catch the rodeo livestream on the Cowboy Channel+ app.

Now, let’s talk about the fun stuff!

Thursday is all about showing our military some love. Active-duty military, their dependents, and Gold-Star family members get in free with valid military ID. The night kicks off at 7:15 p.m. with a grand entry exhibition by the 1st Cavalry Division riders from Fort Cavazos. They’ll be showing off their horse-riding and weaponry skills in a display you won’t want to miss. Rodeo action starts at 8 p.m. sharp each night, with events like bareback and saddle broncs, tie-down roping, and the always-popular bull riding.

Friday is City of Killeen Employee Night. City staff, show your valid employee ID and enjoy the rodeo on the house! And get this, some local media celebs will be joining in for a calf scramble. They’ll be racing to snatch a winning ribbon from the tails of some clever rodeo calves. It’s going to be a hoot!

Saturday morning, from 10 a.m. to noon, we’re hosting the first-ever Special Hearts Rodeo, thanks to the rodeo committee and some generous sponsors. It’s free to enter, and there’s no fee for contestants in barrel racing, roping, or bull riding. The events have been tweaked so kids and adults can participate at their own pace. Just sign a waiver, and you’re good to go! There’s also a petting zoo, face painting, and other activities for those who prefer a more laid-back rodeo experience. We want everyone to feel welcome at the Special Hearts Rodeo. For more info, give us a call at 254-760-2252.

Saturday night is Educator’s Night. Show your valid ID, and faculty and staff from Killeen ISD, Central Texas College, or Texas A&M University-Central Texas can enjoy the rodeo for free.

And for the little ones, parents can sign them up for mutton bustin’ (that’s sheep-riding with helmets) each night. Kids need to be between 4 and 9 years old and not weigh more than 50 pounds. But don’t worry, there’s a spot for kids of any size in the stick-horse parade at 7:15 p.m.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $17 at the gate for adults; $8 in advance or $10 at the gate for youth aged 7-17; and kids 6 and under get in free. You can grab advance tickets at sponsor locations like Nyle Maxwell Killeen, Cavender’s Boot City, Murdoch’s, or the Killeen Civic and Conference Center.

Oh, and here’s a sweet deal: bring six cans of food for the Killeen Food Care Center, and you get one free ticket to the rodeo any night. You can even drop off cans in advance at Nyle Maxwell in Killeen.

The rodeo grounds are at 3301 S. W.S. Young Drive. If you’ve got questions or need more info, just call 254-501-3888.

Y’all ready for some rodeo fun? We sure are! Saddle up and see you there!
